Smokers = Losers

So I am tired of sitting on my ergonomics-deprived chair and decide to take a little walk outside – you know – get a breath of fresh air and catch some rays. And what do I get - some sidestream smoke – some asthmatic trigger! So what’s the story? I fail to understand why someone would smoke knowing very well that it is detrimental to their health. I have some very brilliant and normal friends who smoke in a chain. They like to take care of their bodies, exercise, control their diet . . . and smoke? What kind of a life is it when you have no sense of mastery, autonomy or competency over it and let self-destructive, addictive, obsessive-compulsive and deplorable habits orchestrate it? Isn’t this just another chemical dependency where you lose the locus of control? How different is it from being a junkie? I’m sure you don’t agree with all I have said in this post – that’s why they have a comments section :)
BTW, I am a quasi-active member of the UMBC anti-smoking lobby which is trying to keep smokers from congregating closer to building entrances than 20 feet. Here’s a link to
their website.

  • Smoking relieves mental tension and keep's the person active. Being a chain smoker is bad, but smoking occasionally should be okie.

  • Nice blog Cherie! And I partly agree with ya on the smoking thing. I don't understand why people smoke!! But that's precisely the point, ain't it? That, unless we smoke (proper smoking...not choking on it!), we won't know why they do it. All in all, I guess a couple of 'em now and then shouldn't be a big deal. :)

  • I agree about smokers - but, to compare them to Junkies! That is outrageous! It's an insult to all the Junkies!

  • I refuse to be affected by the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo!

    You are very funny - and that line is sooo original! :)

  • That line IS original - I’d explain it to you, but I don’t have any crayons with me.
    I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.

    Why this outrage when someone makes sense? You are free to mess up your lungs or blow out your brains...the latter seems like a better option for you. Anyway, now that we know how you've picked up a few words that defy your IQ (crayon on the wall, of course!)...go ahead and keep smoking while I shop for a black suit - the end is near dude, your days are numbered...if only you could count!

  • Hey...as a doc cldnt agree more....why turn ur lungs into a chimney on purpose..??...good going with the anti-smoking lobby...:)

    You think you are a wit and you're probably half right. Why dont YOU blow your brains out? You've got nothing to lose.
    If only I had a lower IQ, I could enjoy your comments.

  • @ a s harris:
    First, I didn't put my comments there for you to enjoy.
    Second, don't worry about your IQ not being low enough...you're falling fast...3,2,1 Rockbottom!hehehe just kidding, we both know you were already there.

    You're right about one thing though - blowing my brains out must feel better than responding to Crayon 'borrowed lines' Dude!
